Retired carpenter John Long planned to sail from San Francisco to Ireland. He never made it. His beaten and bruised body was found floating in the Mexican surf. Photographer Ryan Heffernan (www.ryanheffernan.com) traveled with writer David Vann to the lawless, empty coast of Chiapas to investigate.
